103: Aeronautical Engineering & 3D Printing

The Aeronautical Engineering & 3D printing is a cooperative program between the Aeronautical Center of Technology, Indy South Greenwood Airport, and local school corporations. The course is designed to promote science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) using aerospace disciplines through teamwork and individual activities.

Students will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of the essential scientific and technological foundations of aeronautics so they are fully prepared for taking further studies and training to become drone pilots or private/commercial airplane pilots. They will also develop practical skills in mathematics, electrical, electronics, radio communication, rocketry, aviation, navigation, and unmanned aircraft systems (drones). They will be able to use 3D printing to make parts for experiments, building drones and rockets. They will be prepared to become licensed ham radio operators.

This course composites of the following modules:

  1. Module 1: 3D printing

  2. Module 2: Math foundation

  3. Module 3: Physics/aerodynamics foundation

  4. Module 4: Electrical and electronics

  5. Module 5: Ham radio and communications

  6. Module 6: Rocketry

  7. Module 7: Navigation

  8. Module 8: Unmanned Aircraft Systems (Drones)
